A European premiere, the exhibition Fantastic Sea Monsters, straight from the Le Musée du Fjord at La Baie (Quebec) will enable you to discover the most spectacular and enigmatic marine legends.
Our waters are inhabited by animals who, either because of their massive size, stunning shapes or puzzling behaviour, are the source of many myths and legends. Giant squids and octopuses, whales, narwhals, sharks, sea serpents and mermaids - they all fascinate us... Historically, they were observed or caught in our lakes, oceans or even simply in our imagination...!
So if a bit of adventure doesn’t scare you, we invite young and old to hold your breath and dive with us to the heart of the seabed! A children's trail and many other surprises await you...

Since the arrival of our new colleague, Marie-Esther Verheyen, who possesses
artistic talents for which we have been searching for many years, we have
been able to instigate a revision and reassessment programme of our collections,
and the renewal of our exhibition panels.
With her invaluable aid we have completely changed the presentation of the
exhibits, and are proud to show them within our new permanent exhibition
which will bear the title "Et au-delà
de l'Eau".
A few words of explanation :
The exhibition is divided into different themes and areas.
Theme 1: Earth,
the planet on which Water circulates.
And beyond
Water, there is our genesis. The genesis and birth of
the planet which shelters us, the birth of a system which allowed us to
appear. Water is the key element.
Theme 2: History, culture and myths.
And beyond
Water, each culture arises because of a parallel need
with each evolution, the fear, the awareness of human real-life experience!
Theme 3: Water distribution from its earliest days to the modern era.
And beyond
Water, there is a whole ingenious system invented by
man in order to live or to survive, for Water is more than a material
need, it is a vital and spiritual need.
Theme 4: Water, a driving force.
And beyond
Water, there is the energy we can draw from it, and the
need which this energy engenders; The story of the constructive and destructive
evolution of human megalomania.
Theme 5: Water source of life, source of death.
And beyond
Water, there is Water, source of all life, the Water
of which we are made, which is vital but which can also destroy us.
Theme 6: H2O, apparently so simple
And beyond
Water, there is matter, the atom, the molecule, the research
into knowing the why and the how of matter.
Theme 7: Water versus Fire
And beyond
Water, there is the battle of the elements, illustrating
an aspect both offensive and defensive, of different types of matter joining
together or fighting, a war in which man fights both with, and against
the elements.
Area 8: Water here and beyond
And beyond
Water? A weighty question. What hope for the future,
for the Universe?
How do you feel after visiting an exhibition which makes no judgements,
offers no solutions, but which presents evidence, makes observations,
asks questions?
